One of the many short stories we read is called The Veldt written by Ray BradBury. This story is narrated in the future in a technological advanced house, that does all kind of stuff for its owner. In the house there is a special room for the kids called the nursery where everything the kids imagine becomes real, and this room may cause a lot of problems. Finally I think this author has a lot of creativity to perform this sic-if story's.
In this story there are different Sci-fi elements, one of them is the setting. This story is narrated in the future in a technological advance house, with a nursery room. Some of the futuristic things that the house can do is generate food, sweeps the house and bathe the children. The nursery room turns the children's imagination into reality. This is relevant, because it is every important to know the setting in order to understand the content of the story. Other element found in the Veldt are the characters, George (dad), Lydia (mom) and Wendy- Peter the children. "Nevertheless, I've noticed they've been decidedly cool toward us since." "We've given the children everything they ever wanted. Is this our reward-secrecy disobedience?." This is relevant as it is important to know what type of parents were the Hadley's, to understand the consequences of the story.
Another thing include in the story is Narrative Techniques, one of them is personification. As the author gives the house human like abilities. "Their house is completely computerized, there are machines to fry eggs, generate food, sweep the house and bathe the children." It is effective to know that the author uses personification in the story. Other technique would be description. The author description is very good he makes a total description of what the nursery looks like, and describes what the kitchen can do. "The nursery was silent. It was empty as a jungle glade at hot high noon. The walls were blank and two dimensional..." Is efficient because is important for the reader to understand the places and how they look. Also what the kids wanted.
The elements used in this story were setting, characters, technology. The techniques used were dialogue, description, personification. What the author Ray Bradbury wants to give as a message is that technological things are consuming as and we should learn how to used them. Finally for my personal opinion I think this story was very interesting, because the technology is very advanced, and I think it would be great to have a nursery. Also I think this author gives a very interesting message, because it makes as realize that we are really stuck on technology.
